The tide has gone right out and left a mile of shell white sand to walk across before the water even begins. Shoes come off. The shallows run warm and clear over pale sand, small boats swing at their moorings further out, and the hills across the water are close enough to watch the weather arriving on them. Somebody has left a towel on the rocks. Only the dog is in any hurry. Sand and shallow water take up most of the frame in tones that shift by inches rather than obviously, which makes the boats, the rocks and the dog matter far more than their actual size in the picture. Start with those and work outwards into the flats. Bright and calm with very little dark anywhere in it, which makes it an easy one to do in the evening under a lamp.
